Welcome to the Click 4 Curtains guide to readymade curtains.
Readymade curtains provide a room with that "finished look" as well as keeping out bright sunlight, preventing furniture from fading. Readymade curtains also help keep the warmth in your home during the winter. Our range of ready-made curtains are available in a variety of widths, weights and styles ensuring the right look to co-ordinate with any style of home.
Readymade curtains can be a great way to inject colour into a room, or to make a real feature of a window - readymade curtains can be dressed up or down as much as you want. Brighter/richer colours and heavier readymade curtains will draw the eye to a window, while lighter colours and fabrics will make a small window appear larger.

Contemporary readymade curtains can be hung on a track or a curtain pole and for the best results should have a double gather.
Types Of Readymade Curtain Headings.
'Heading' is used to describe how the top of your readymade curtains are attached to the track or pole
There are three different types, each one giving your readymade curtains a different look and finish.
Pencil Pleat (Tape Top) Readymade Curtains.
Pencil pleat headed readymade curtains can be hung on a curtain track or pole. The three hook positions allow some adjustment to the final depth of your readymade curtain. They can be fitted with a decorative valance if required.
'Tape' is the name for the band of fabric with string threaded through which is attached to the inside top edge of each readymade curtain Hooks are looped through the tape to attach the readymade curtains to the track or pole The tape on all our readymade curtains is 3" The tape will have 3 rows of strings running through it. Please note that if you place your hooks on the tape at the highest position your track or pole will show over the top of the readymade curtains. If you choose the lowest position it will be hidden.
How To Hang Your Pencil Pleat Readymade Curtains.
On Curtain Tracks -
Tape top readymade curtains need to be gathered before they can be hung up. If using a track it is usually recommended that you put the hooks into the bottom row of strings so the curtain top covers the track
Pull the readymade curtains along the string to gather them up. The readymade curtains should be gathered to just over half the window width, this will allow them to overlap when closed. Please note that once you have gathered readymade curtains they cannot be returned so make sure you are happy with the size and colour before you start
Once your readymade curtains are gathered to the right width tie off the strings at the inside edge. Do not tie too tightly as it is common to loosen these off after a readymade curtain has been washed. You can, if you wish, trim the strings but again do not trim them too short. The string ends can then be tucked neatly into the tape so as not to be seen
Now hooks should be placed at each end of each readymade curtain and then at intervals of approximately 4"
You can now thread the hooks through the track glides on your track making sure you place a hook through the last track glide which acts as an end cap anchoring the readymade curtains in place.
On Curtain Poles -
If using a curtain pole it is usually recommended that you put the hooks into the top row of strings in your tape so the curtain pole shows above your readymade curtains. Hooks should be placed at each end of each readymade curtains and then at intervals of approximately 4".
On the tape top there will be between 1 and 3 strings. First tie the strings together at the outside edge of each readymade curtain
Pull the readymade curtains along the string to gather them up. The readymade curtains should be gathered to just over half the window width. Thread the curtain rings onto the pole but make sure that the last ring is secured on the outside of the pole behind where is attached to the wall as this will anchor the readymade curtains and stop them from moving when you close them.
How to Care For Your Readymade Curtains
Hanging Your Readymade Curtains.
Hang your readymade curtains away from the window pane so that they are not in contact with condensation.
Run your fingers along the natural folds of your readymade curtains to move the pleats into position.
Don't worry if your new readymade curtains have crease and pressure marks. These will disappear from your readymade curtains as the fabric settles.
Readymade Curtain Manufacturers
Manufacturing of readymade curtains used to be mainly based in the North West of England.
Readymade curtains were produced in the huge mills and exported around the world.
These days readymade curtains are mainly produced overseas in countries such as China, Turkey and India.
Readymade curtains reflect the influences of these countries and are available in a huge range of fabrics, designs and colours.
Many of the original readymade curtain manufacturers are still based in the North West of England , the largest of theses companies are Rectella and Curtina.
Measuring for Readymade Curtains.
Readymade curtains are available in standard widths and drops, which reflect the most popular sizes of peoples windows.
The vast majority of readymade curtains are sold in pairs.
The size of the readymade curtain on the packet refers to each individual curtain. For example a pair of 46"x54" readymade curtains will contain two curtains both 46" width x 54" drop.
When measuring the width of your window for readymade curtains, you should measure the width of your curtain track or pole, not the window width, this will ensure a full fitting of your curtains.
If you are yet to buy your track or pole, please allow 6" (15cm) above your window and allow 6" (15cm) either side of your window. This will allow your readymade curtains to be drawn back from your window and will allow more light into your room.
To give you a luxurious fitting for your readymade curtains, we recommend that the combined width of your curtains should be as close to double the size of your window as possible.
Measuring the length of your curtains...
First, decide where you would like the length of your readymade curtains to finish.
* To the window sill... We suggest that sill length readymade curtains finish 1/2"(1.5cm) above the window sill.
* Below the sill... If you want your readymade curtains below your sill, we recommend they finish 6"(15cm) below.
* To the floor We suggest that your readymade curtains finish. 1/2" (1.5cm) above the floor.
* Please Note... For pencil pleat readymade curtains, measure from the eye at the bottom of the curtain ring. For tab top readymade curtains measure from the top of the pole. For eyelet curtains, please allow 1 1/2" extra on your drop as the readymade curtains start above the pole.
Linings
Readymade curtains hang better if they are lined. Readymade curtain linings also improve the appearance of colours and patterns, protect your readymade curtains against strong sunlight and improve insulation when it's cold. Blackout linings are also available for your readymade curtains. Readymade blackout linings will block sunlight , protect your readymade curtains and keep heat in your room.
Cleaning Your Readymade Curtains.
Before you clean your readymade curtains, loosen the draw-strings and remove the curtain hooks.
Lined readymade curtains should always be dry cleaned. Care instructions will be sewn into the linings of your readymade curtains.
We recommend that all our readymade curtains are professionally cleaned according to their individual care instructions, these can be found on packaging or on the sewn in labels Any creases that occur from the readymade curtain being packed should fall out after hanging in a warm room Apart from velvet, most readymade curtains may be ironed with a warm dry iron on the reverse side, make sure you avoid the hem at the bottom and on the sides.
