Different styles of curtains

February 24, 2010

Curtains are mostly used as they provide privacy in the room. Apart from this benefit, curtains also enhance your interior and do not allow sunlight to enter your room. These days, curtains are widely used at homes and even at offices.

There are various types of curtains available in the market. They are available in different styles, sizes and fabric. The most common styles of curtains are pole pocket, tabbed, pinch-pleat, grommet, swags and tie-top.

Generally, tabbed curtains have ‘tabs’ on the top. They are rectangular in shape and are hung on a rod. The size of the rod needed to hang the tabbed curtains depends on the size of the tabs. This type of curtain do not require clips or rings hence they are easier to hang.

Another type of a curtain is a pole pocket curtain. They are also easy to hang and do not require clips or rings similar to the tabbed style curtain. The rod goes through the pole pocket and the size of the rod depends on the inside diameter of the pocket. It is advisable to use a rod with a small diameter so that the curtain can easily move along the rod.

One more type of curtain is the tie-top. In this type of curtain the top of the fabric has several pieces of fabric that “tie” around the rod. They can be tied or knotted in bows.

Swag curtains are usually pieces of fabric that hang around and over the rod. There are different ways to swag the curtains over the rod. They hang over the top of the rod hence can be used with other types of curtains too.
